MF Ghost Season 3 is off to a Decent Start…

Article at a glance:

  • Season 3 picks up the momentum from Season 2, focusing more on races and less on the tedious slice-of-life that dragged Season 1 down.
  • The racing feels hype again, with Kanata locking in despite his injury and a noticeably better soundtrack elevating the action.
  • Character writing is still the weak link, but if Season 3 sticks to the “turn your brain off and enjoy the races” approach, MF Ghost Season 3 should be a solid watch.

It is no secret that I wasn’t the biggest fan of MF Ghost Season 1. The character work was just not there; the only reasons I stuck around were that the racing was still fun, and Initial D cameos still made me feel something. Season 2, then, was a step in the right direction with more racing and less of the annoying slice-of-life stuff. And now, MF Ghost Season 3 looks like it will follow the same route. And it feels like Season 3 even has a better soundtrack off the bat for the races compared to Season 2, which is nice.

Now, yes, there is still some questionable stuff here which I honestly wish wasn’t a thing, but, can’t do anything about it. But welcome back to another first impressions article, and today, we are talking about MF Ghost Season 3. Let’s get started,

What do I think of MF Ghost Season 3 so far?

We basically pick up right where Season 2 left off. Kanata was injured at the end of Season 2 and was struggling for a bit because of it in the current race. And not gonna lie, seeing Kanata just lock in and slowly gain back on everyone in Episode 2 was really hype. I don’t know if they got a better budget or what, but the soundtracks are definitely an improvement over Season 2. Of course, this is still not Initial D Eurobeat stuff, but it is still good music. Even the new opening theme is nice; it’s a very 90s-sounding Eurobeat song, and I just love that vibe.

As I was saying, the character work in MFG is kind of terrible, so all the slice-of-life scenes felt like a damn chore to get through in Season 1. That is why when Season 2 dialed them back, I was really happy. I wish that the whole Ren working as an Angel for MFG wasn’t a thing. Considering, you know, she’s in high school. That’s another reason why the character work in MFG just doesn’t sit right with me. You know, what’s so funny? They do justice to their minor Initial D cameos, whenever they happen. But the show can’t get its own new characters right.

But, just like Season 2, it looks like Season 3 will be another “turn your brain off and enjoy the races season.” Which is fine by me. Especially with the improved soundtrack and decent production, the races should be good. More races, less SoL stuff, please. And if that continues like Season 2, Season 3 will also be a decent watch.

That is all for now

Those were my thoughts on MFG Season 3 so far. Both episodes of Season 3 have been good, so far. I am looking forward to the next one to see how Kanata does in the race. Because, believe it or not, the races are still pretty hype. With that said, though, I will take my leave here. See ya!
