If you watched this week’s episode of The Eminence in Shadow, you know exactly why I chose the title to be like this. What a surprising ending and what a plot twist. It is so fitting that they named the episode “Highest” as well/ So in honor of that and the first opening theme of the series. I name this week’s article “Play Higesht by OxT” too because I listened to that song like 5 more times after finishing this week’s episode of the Eminence in Shadow/

That is not all though, of course! The Season is coming to a close, which means we got season finales for a lot of anime this week. And the last episode of this cour for Frieren, next cour for it starts on 5th January. So there are many great episodes to discuss, like Giblin Slayer Season 2 Episode 12 or Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 22. Shield Hero Season 3 had an interesting climax as well.

So welcome to the last “Best Episodes of the Week” article of 2023! The next time I write this article, it’ll be 1st January 2024 where I live. We have quite a few interesting things to talk about this week too! So play Highest by OxT on your streaming service of choice and let’s get started!

Shield Hero Season 3 Episode 12

This was a very interesting episode. Somehow, it didn’t feel like a season finale at all and felt more like a regular episode. I guess that means that the chances of getting a Season 4 are pretty high? Either way, I am putting this episode on the list because the episode had quite a few interesting plot developments. I like the fact that 3 of the 4 heroes are now in Lurolona and Motoyasu will join them as well once Filo returns.

But no, the main reason this episode is here is because of all the Raphtalia lore we got. We now know how she was born, why was she in Lulorona when she was young, how she became a slave, and her relationship with Nadia. All this also has given us a general idea about the plot of the next arc. And hopefully, we will get a Season 4 soon to follow up on this huge lore drop.

Goblin Slayer Season 2 Episode 12

This is the definition of a season finale. This episode was so good that one of my friends said “This feels like the end of the series”. This, of course, is not the case but that statement goes on to show just how amazing this episode was. There were a lot of plot implications and developments, there was a lot of action as well and as we have come to expect of Season 2, there were a lot of great character moments in this episode as well.

This arc started off as a simple “rescue the princess abducted by goblins” but in this episode, it turned into this whole conspiracy to awaken some terrible monster and take down the nation. Aside from the amazing plot and action, we also had some great character development for the Priestess and Goblin Slayer towards the end. And the Sword Maiden was just the MVP of this episode. She stood there leading her troops despite the fact her body was trembling because of its repulsion towards goblins. It was glorious.

Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 22

See, this episode perfectly embodies just how unpredictable this series has gotten. What the hell is even going on in this episode LOL. Shibuya is completely gone at this point (Thanks, Sukuna), Mahito is on the verge of death but Geto betrays him, as expected and now Choso is Yuuji’s brother somehow? What the hell? I cannot express just how wild the plot developments were in this episode.

I was thinking that the anime would tone it down a little, just the last 3 episodes of the season remain, but no. I can’t even say what’s going to happen in the next two episodes at this point. Like so much unexpected stuff has happened in this season, that I wouldn’t be surprised if Geto somehow manages to wipe everyone off till episode 24 SMH. After Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5, this is the only anime this year where for the love of god, I could NOT see what was coming at all.

This week, it is Highest by OxT, the week JJK Season 2 ends, I will name the article after Specialz by King Gnu for obvious reasons.

Frieren Episode 16

This was a nice and cute ending to this cour of Frieren. There wasn’t much in this episode but it managed to be cute (and funny), wholesome, and weirdly melancholic like most of Frieren’s short stories. I really like the fact that Frieren was finally able to meet a person who she could talk about the past with. Not many people are even close to as old as her. She was ready to stay 10 years to talk to that dwarf LOL, again, this is a nice reminder that 10 years mean nothing to elves.

The 2nd was more on the comedic side. It pretty much involved doing “side quests” for an old lady to ask her about Sein’s lost friend. I can’t decide what’s funnier between Sein’s friends going by the name “Gorilla” or the old lady literally calling herself “stubborn old lady” LOL. It was a simple and fun episode. A fitting end to the season.

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 12

I simply cannot get over just how amazing this episode was. Shadow vs. Ragnarok and Mordred after that looked amazing against the backdrop of the black rose in the sky. Shadow finished off Mordred with a hyper-powered version of his signature “I am atomic”. He was just talking about returning to where everything began to Mordred and what happens after the fight? As Higehst by OxT plays in the background, we literally return to where everything started for the series!

They know how iconic of an opening theme Highest by OxT has become. They literally named the episode HIghest after that song LOL. Mordred also gave us some very important lore about how different worlds exist in their universe and how they influence each other. What an amazing episode. Lots of plot, great action, and a perfect ending to a season. Easy 10/10 episode right here.

That is all for now!

Those were my favorite episodes of the week. I’ll go listen to Highest by OxT a few more times, you tell me what you think in the comments. See ya!!
