Set in 1374, the story follows a boy named Oniyasha, born into a family of sarugaku theater performers amid the chaos of the Northern and Southern Courts’ war. Haunted by the question of why people dance, Oniyasha’s life changes when he witnesses a dance that captivates him. Eventually, he becomes the figure known as Zeami, who shapes the art of Noh theater.
The anime adapts Kazuto Mihara’s manga, which began publication in Kodansha’s Morning magazine in 2021. It concluded with six volumes in 2022 and is available in English from Kodansha USA.
The anime is directed by Toshimasa Kuroyanagi, known for Backflip!! and The Great Passage. Character designs come from Keigo Sasaki, recognized for his work on Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Millionaire Detective. Sawako Kawamitsu handles series composition and scripts, while Shuhei Fuchimoto serves as assistant director.
Yumiri Hanamori voices Oniyasha alongside a talented supporting cast featuring Simba Tsuchiya, Maaya Uchida, Romi Park, Katsuyuki Konishi, and Haruki Ishiya.
Thanks to the detailed direction and historic supervision, The World is Dancing aims to capture the essence of Noh theater and its cultural backdrop. With fresh visuals and an evocative soundtrack, the series looks ready to entertain both history buffs and anime fans alike.
