Summertime Render is truly An Underrated Anime

Article at a glance:
- No one’s talking about it, but they should be—Summertime Render is one of the smartest and tightest thrillers in anime, and it deserves way more love than it gets.
- With a solid time loop system, a high-stakes mystery, and genuinely earned plot twists, this show pulls off what most anime can only dream of.
- So why didn’t it blow up? That’s what I want to dig into today—no spoilers, just reasons why this anime deserves to be on your watchlist.

Look, I really don’t like tossing around overused words like underrated. To a lot of people, the word “underrated” has lost all of its meaning because of how casually it is tossed around. But trust me when I say this, Summertime Render is the definition of an underrated anime. Despite how well-written and tight the plot is, I barely see anyone talking about it. And that’s a shame. A lot more people deserve to know about this show and please, check it out. It is amazing.
So yeah, welcome to another one of my articles, and today I want to go over why Summertime Render is an underrated anime and why it failed to get the audience it deserved. There will be no spoilers ahead because I want you to watch this show. There are a lot of awesome twists here so I won’t discuss the plot in detail. So let’s get started.

Why Should You Watch Summertime Render?
This anime has one of the best usages of time loops I have ever seen. The mechanics make sense, the time loops are not infinite and with each loop, Shinpei moves one step closer to certain doom so he can’t just loop back without consequences. On top of the really intricate time travel mechanics, there is a lot lore to sink your teeth into. I really cannot praise the writing of this show enough. Even minor victories feel earned and every bit of new information Shinpei gets costs something.
The characters for the most part are quite well-utilized as well. The fact that I still recall the names of the main characters of this show after 2+ years of watching it, goes on to show how memorable they were. Shinpei makes for a good protagonist as well, he may not be physically capable but he is smart and of course, armed with the time loop ability. Sure, some character like Sou don’t get enough time and there are some other contrivances as well but all in all, the plot and character writing are amazing.

Well if that’s the case, why didn’t this show blow up? Well, there are a few reasons I can think of. First of all, the Disney+ exclusivity and screwed up international releases already cut the show’s audience numbers. Who the hell goes to Disney+ to watch anime? No one’s gonna subscribe to Disney’s shitty platform for just 1 anime. Secondly, the first few episodes of Summertime Render are quite dense and give you a lot of information to process. Not a lot of people like that. Thirdly, this anime doesn’t have a “viral moment” and had poor advert campaigns overall.
That is all for now
But I really urge you to check out Summertime Render, it is well-written, well-animated, tightly-paced and most of all, it is a complete story in just 24 episodes. Not a lot of shows can pull that off. So please check it out. With that said, I will take my leave here. See ya!
